Leo the guy at the beach bar was awesome and funny! The lobby bar workers not so much. Unfortunately the night club has been closed since January so we would wind up and the beach bar or lobby bar. The days that we stayed at the resort we pretty much winded up doing the same things. We took a boat by the marina for a day and did the “jungle experience” excursion the resort offered and those were both great. It’s in a good area right by Tulum and Playa del Carmen if you feel like taking a day trip the transportation at the hotel is great. Our overall experience at the Catolina was good. We used Cancun Shuttle as our airport transportation and had a great experience with them too. We left the hotel 4 hours before our flight and would definitely recommend doing that as the Cancun Airport is a mess. We encountered no traffic on the way back as our flight home was at noon on a Saturday. Was nervous about the hour long drive from the airport and potential longer drive back with expected traffic. It was so great!! The resort is in a neighborhood area where a short walk will talk you to some pharmacies, restaurants and a place to swim with dolphins and we felt very safe doing that. Our romance room came with a hot tub, 3 course steak dinner and couples massage at the spa. Couldn’t ask for better service from him or any of the other hotel staff. He checked in with us multiple times throughout our stay and actually remembered emailing with us about this trip being our honeymoon. Dinner reservations were very hard to make but luckily Victor at Guest Services was really willing to help us out. There’s also a privileged only pool and beach area which was less crowded. The privileged status was so great giving us better liquor and being able to go to a restaurant (B Loved) without reservation was so nice. We booked the Privileged Romance room and would do it 100 more times. We were nervous about this being a kid friendly resort but had no issues with kids being crazy or loud. We just got back from our honeymoon at Catalonia.
